WEB
A small independent or custom recording
concern, by the look of it. The only records on the Web label that I
have ever seen in the vinyl are the ones pictured above. There is no
date on either of them, but 'Yer Gotta Get Aht', by Bobby Bragg (SS-75001)
has a matrix number of DTS-006, which was taken from a series used by
DTS Studios (q.v.) of Rochester, and this gives a slight clue as to the
dating. DTS-009 and DTS-010 both came out in 1976; a reasonable
guess, then, suggests that DTS-006 / SS-75001 may well be from 1975 or
'76. It seems possible that the first two digits of the number refer to
the year - 1975 - and the final three to the number of the records made in that
year. As can be seen, 'Snowbird' by Shades Of Harmony (SM-75005), had a
light blue label of much the same design; its matrix number was VT M 261073,
which is no help to me whatsoever. Both records were produced by Jack
Long, which suggests that Web may have been his label. I have yet to
track down the missing Webs.
