TRYFAN

Named after a peak in Snowdonia, Tryfan was, and is, a division of Sain Records, the premier Welsh record company.  It appears to have had quite a varied repertoire, including Choral, Jazz and Classical material as well as Folk, which suggests that it may have been used for material which wasn't considered to fit Sain's image as the country's most up-to-date label.  Not all its releases were in the Welsh language, as witness Tumbledownwind's 'The Country Sounds Of Tumbledownwind' EP (TRF-124; 1979).  Initially EPs and singles were numbered in the TRF-100s and LPs in the TRF-200s, though by the mid '80s all formats seem to be sharing the same TRF-200 numbering.  The first Tryfan release was an eponymous album by Cor Godre'r Aran (TRF-201), which came out in 1974.  By the time that Gavin Woods's CD 'Travelling By Tuba' came out, in 1995, the numbers had reached TRF CD-376.  The label's 7" releases are listed below; the few that I've seen in the vinyl have been Lyntone pressings.  See also Ty Ar Y Graig.
