STORM
Storm Records was based in Blackpool. It was run by Wayne
Paulo and Lenny Harris, and it appears to have had close ties with
Tiny's Studio. According to an article in 'Music Week' of the 9th of September
1978 it was a small independent concern, selling directly to shops and distributors, and
was based at 186 North Promenade. There was also a publishing company,
Storm Music; 'MW' of the 3rd of March 1979 revealed that
it was run by Wayne and Estelle Paulo and it
was looking to enlarge its
catalogue, having had "success with a variety of music from artists
and composers throughout the north west." Storm issued its first record in 1976;
as a label, it doesn't seem to have survived into 1981. Not
all of its artists were unknowns: Candlewick Green, who had a hit
in 1974 with 'Who Do You Think You Are', on Decca (F-13480), later had an
album out on Storm (SSR-3302; 1977). Storm 7"s were numbered in the SR-000s, albums - there were at
least ten of them - in an SSR-3300
series. Some early Storm EPs were injection moulded (1, 2) indicating
that pressing was by Phonodisc. The paper label can
be found in several different colour combinations; the few
paper-labelled singles that I have seen in the vinyl have been pressed by Orlake. Storm
produced at least one 'collectable' in the shape
of Gasp's 'Jimmy The Fish' b/w 'Gaz's Boots' single (SR-028; 1/79). Thanks to Robert
Bowes for the first two scans. The discography below is
horribly gappy but it contains all the Storm 7" records that a
dredge of Google currently reveals. See also Bamboo (1978).
