SPEDEWORTH
As the label indicates,
Spedeworth was - and indeed still is - in the business of promoting stock car race meetings. Orchestra
leader Eric Winstone was inspired to write 'The Formula ll March' for the company after
a visit to one of its meetings in late 1966; it was
released in 1967 on his International Dance Records label, with a version of
'A Swingin' Safari' as the 'B' side (UPC 45-3609). The pairing seems to have proven
popular enough to deserve reissuing, this time as a one-off on
Spedeworth's own label. There's no date on the label but according to
the 45cat site the reissue took place in 1976, which sounds reasonable.
Pressing was by Decca. As for the music, on the sleeve notes to the
original single Eric Winstone himself described the March as
'...another March Of The Mods', which sums it up pretty well.
