QPR (1977)
The second QPR label was the vehicle
for a single by supporters of Queens Park Rangers F.C. rather than by the team
itself. The single in question was 'Queens Park Rangers' b/w 'Drive
Me Down To QPR', by the Loftus Roadrunners. Its catalogue number was
QPR-1, and it came out in 1977. It's actually not bad, in a Glammy
sort of way. Bruce Thomas, who composed both sides, went on to better
things shortly afterwards as a member of The Attractions. Pressing was by
Decca. Gama Records, whose logo appears on the label, was the label of
Gemini Management, which had signed to Decca in November 1973. According
to Billboard (3rd November 1973) there was a possibility of Gama being
given fully-fledged label status if certain levels of sales were achieved, but
in the event the separate identity never happened and the company's
products - such as records by Camel - appeared on the Deram or Decca
labels.
