PERKY PAT
A DIY label, apparently a one-off. An EP called
Improving Silence, featuring 'Porcupine' and five other tracks, seems to have been Perky Pat's only
release. It had a catalogue number of CS LP-145 / 146
(each side had its own discrete number), which was part of a
series used by Cathedral Sound studios (q.v.) of Lancaster; the label bears a distinct resemblance to
Cathedral Sound. The EP is reported to have come out in 1977,
though some of the tracks are from earlier in the decade, and the music
on it has been described in the '45 Revolutions' book as 'DIY
Folk Pop'. The people behind the release were M.J. Cooper and David
Hockley, two ex-pupils of Edge Hill College, Ormskirk, and the tracks featured one or both of
them in combination with various other musicians. An insert included with the record
gives phone numbers in Southport and Skelmersdale, which presumably gives a rough idea of the area
where Perky Pat came from.
