NO RIP OFF
/ N.R.O.
A DIY label from the
Punk / New Wave era. No Rip Off seems to have managed at least two 7"
releases, with a four-year gap between them. The first was the
'Mell Square Musick' EP (YAW-001), which featured three tracks by Solihull
band The Accused and one each
by 021, Cracked Actors and The Undertakers. Both Discogs and the 45Cat site give the EP as
being released in February 1980, which would put No Rip
Off outside the scope of this site, but Bored Teenagers has it as 1979 and it has '1979'
written on the labels, so I've given it the benefit of the doubt. A cassette
tape featuring various local bands, 'A Tale Of Two Cities' was released
in 1980, with support from The Prince's Trust; then in 1984 came the second
single, 'I Lost My Mind' b/w 'Hold Back' by Eye
Do It (YAW-2; 2/84). YAW-1 came with a home-made picture sleeve but blank white labels,
which frequently have the details handwritten on them; YAW-2 was
distributed by The Cartel. Illustrations and an article can be found at
the Bored Teenagers site mentioned
above.
