MUTE
A respected and successful independent label with an
adventurous recording policy and leanings toward electronic music, Mute was
founded by Daniel Miller in 1978. It didn't really get into its
stride until the '80s, when Depeche Mode, Erasure and Yazoo took it into the
higher reaches of the Charts on numerous occasions. It continued to
thrive throughout the '90s, with artists such as Moby and Laibach, and is still
going today, under Miller's guidance, as part of EMI. The labels of
its few '70s issues - the singles are listed below - came in one design but
several different colours. Distribution was by Rough Trade.
