MP
A small independent label
from Devon. MP was run by bandleader and drummer Maurice Price. It
was responsible from at least two EPs, which were numbered in a WE-100 series -
the 'WE' prefix was derived from the West of England Sound (q.v.) studios, where
the recording was done. WE-101 offered four tracks from Maurice Price's
own 'Big 'T' Band', the two
that aren't shown on the scan being versions of 'Montego Bay' and
'How High The Moon'. WE-102 was split between two other local bands, the Tony Pike
Trio and the Tony Osborn Sound. Organist Pike and his group supplied a couple of medleys
for the 'A' side, 'When You're Smiling' and 'RAF March Past',
and singer Osborn and his Sound provided 'Funny Familiar Forgotten Feelings' and 'If I Had A
Hammer' for the 'B'. Sadly there's no date on either, but West of
England Sound was renamed in 1978 which gives us a 'not after' point,
and the label design is identical to that on a West of England
Sound EP that came out in 1978, so if I had
to pick a year I'd be inclined to go for 1977. Thanks to
Nicholas Hough for providing the scan.
