MOTOR CITY RHYTHM
A small independent label from
Moseley, Birmingham. Catalogue numbers suggest that Motor City Rhythm issued at least six singles in 1979-80, but googling fails to reveal any
even-numbered records, which is suspicious. One of the
singles (the first?), Leargo's 'Played Out Angel' b/w 'The Artist', which
came out in 1979, used a number from the
DNS (q.v.) label's series, DNS-87903, but the rest had their own dedicated
MCR-100 series. The music covered a variety of styles, from the New
Wave / Punk of The Daze's 'I Wanna Be A Star' b/w 'At The Seaside' (MCR-101; 1979) through the Reggae
of 'She's Gone' b/w 'Hard Day's Night' by Eclipse (MCR-103; 1980) to the NWOBHM of
Starfighter's 'I'm Falling' b/w 'Heaven And Hell' (MCR-105; 1980). The labels
of the two issues from 1980 were black-on-red rather than black-on-light-blue.
All four singles are collectable, the Daze one especially so. Thanks to
Nicholas Hough for the scan.
