MIK

An Irish DIY label, an outlet for records by Glam / Rock band Gimik, from Limerick.  Mik wouldn't qualify for inclusion on this site were it not for the fact that the first single on the label got a UK release as well as an Irish one.  The British version of 'Dancehall Queen' b/w 'No More Magic' (MR-1; 5/78) received a mention in 'Music Week' of the 27th of May 1978; according to the article it was to be released exclusively by Woolworths in this country, and was to retail at 70p.  The article said that 'distribution' was to be by Damont, but as that clashes with the Woolworths information I would guess that Damont did the pressing.  Mik - later 'Gimik' - issued four singles in Ireland, including a version of this one; the Irish pressing had the same catalogue number but it had a very pale green label with dark green printing.  Gimik had made a single for Release Records, 'Laugh Live and Love' b/w 'You Know My Name' (RL-861) in 1977, before they branched out on their own; the 'A' side was a Mud song, and the band supported Mud on several occasions both in Ireland and the UK.   Thanks to T. P. McLoughlin for the scan, and for bringing the label to my attention.
