METTLE

The record label of Joe Stanley's Mettle Music publishing company, of Chiswick.  Mettle received just one mention in 'Music Week': an article in the issue of the 9th of September 1978 said that it had been set up as a record and publishing company by Stanley, who was formerly with Phonogram's A&R department, that it was looking for artists, songs and writers, and that it wasn't intended to specialize in any particular kind of music.  It was operating out of premises in Barley Mow Passage, and its products would be distributed by independent one-stops.  In the event Mettle seems to have managed just the one release, the single by Tony Hayes pictured above, 'Comin' Home To You' b/w 'Give Me Time'.  It came out in 1978, had a catalogue number of MET-1, and was pressed by Pye.   As far as the musical content is concerned, it is tuneful Pop - the sort of thing you can imagine the Bay City Rollers covering.  Stanley, who was also a record producer and songwriter, made a more fruitful venture into the record market in the early '80s via his 'JSO Records' label, but that is outside the scope of this site.  His real name, apparently, is - or perhaps was - Stanley Adkinson.
