MAINSPRING
Mainspring was a short-lived offshoot of music publishing company
Woolfsongs. It was run by Eric Woolfson and managing director Bob Britton,
and according to Billboard magazine of the 4th of December 1976 it was going to
concentrate on singles. In the event it only issued four of
them, in late 1976 and early 1977, using an MSP-000 numbering series; none
of them are commonly found, nowadays. The layout of the label was
such that perforation for dinking tended to obsure the artist's name, as can be
seen in the second example shown above. Distribution was by
CBS. 'Music Master' lists the third and fourth singles as coming out
before the first two, which is slightly puzzling.
