K J ENTERPRISES

Unusual for this site, in that one of its releases came in the form of a flexi-disc.  The vast majority of flexis were used for promotional purposes but very occasionally they were intended for sale.  Jonathan King put out flexi-singles on his Petrol and Silver Discs labels (q.v. both), and, under the alias of 'Kilter Johnny', A.M. Ritchie of Aberdeen did the same with one of the issues on his K J Enterprises label.  The first record for which he was responsible was a proper vinyl single, albeit a single-sided one: it offered 'The Highland Welcome' and 'Many Congratulations' and it was issued in June 1972.  Backing was provided by the Alex Sutherland band, and the catalogue number was KJE-1001 (1).  KJE-1002, 'The Wee Sgian Dubh' and 'Sula', was the flexi-disc (2); it came out four years later, in June 1976.  Both were made by Lyntone; their matrix numbers were LYN-2500 and LYN-3570 respectively.  There don't appear to have been any more releases.  Sadly, Googling doesn't bring up anything about Kilter Johnny or K J Enterprises.  Thanks to Stephen Small for bringing the company to my attention and for supplying the scans.
