I-SPY
I-Spy was started by Ian Page of Mod group Secret Affair,
in 1979. Secret Affair took the label into the Top 75 five times
during 1979-81, but when the group disbanded, c.1982, I-Spy expired with
it. Both paper and injection moulded labels were used; some
singles can be found in both forms (1, 3). In the '70s paper-labelled
records had the titles on one side and a key hole or the company's logo on the
other; the titles were on the 'A' side of the first single and the 'B' sides of
the others. The example shown was pressed by CBS; the injection
moulded records were usually Phonodisc pressings (4) but some were made in
France (3). In the '80s paper labels followed the more usual
same-on-both-sides format. Company sleeves also came in several different
designs. Marketing and distribution were by Arista, the latter job
being done through Phonodisc who handled Arista's distribution at the
time. Catalogue numbers, which were in a SEE-0 series, reached
SEE-11. The discography below only covers 1979.
