GEM
A member of the RCA family. Gem offered a varied bill of
fare, from the Disco of Patrick Hernandez to the Punk of the V.I.P.s; its
biggest singles act were the U.K. Subs, who took it into the chart six times
between 1979 and 1981. My own personal favourite single on Gem was
Bob Morgan's 'Marguerite': a Reggae-flavoured instrumental which had featured as
incidental music on the children's television programme 'Vision On' some years
earlier. Numbering was in the GEMS-0s. Gem was linked with
the Aquarius label (q.v.): at first the Aquarius logo appeared on the
appropriate records (2), but soon a fully-fledged Gem Aquarius label was used
(q.v.). The discography below only covers the 1970s.
