FLARE

An obscure label from early in the decade, probably a DIY one.  A three-track 7" by Cabaret artists Roy & Jackie Toaduff seems to have been Flare's only release.  It offered the tracks 'Thanks For Everything', 'The Windmill' and 'Tomorrow Tomorrow', all of which were written by Dorothy Altman, and it had a catalogue number of HD-700617.  As the labels indicate, it was made through Discotape (q.v.) Recording Studios, of Sheffield.  There's no date printed on either the labels or the picture sleeve, but a handwritten '1970' on a sleeve on the 45cat site seems like a good bet for the year: it may be that the catalogue number gives the release date in year-month-day form - '70-06-17'.  The Toaduffs went on to enjoy a successful career, which included several years entertaining on the QE2; at some point they made an LP, 'The Magic Of The Toaduffs', which came out on the album-only Co/Ed label (R.J.T. 101).  Thanks to Sam Mauger for bringing Flare to my attention.
