E. L.
P.
An independent label from Cardiff. As can be seen from the
scans, the initials E. L. P. stood for Esme
Lewis Productions. Esme Lewis recorded for the 'Welsh Teledisc' company in the mid '60s, and early
in the next decade she started running her own label. It issued seven records, initially
using an ELP-100 series for singles, EPs and LPs alike; the final
EP was numbered in the ELE-500s. The picture sleeve of 'Glory Glory
Glory' b/w 'Poverty', by Iris Williams gives the number of that particular record
as ELP SP-105 but the actual label has it as just ELP-105; that
single was mastered by Pye but my copy was pressed elsewhere. The label of ELP-103
'Dawnsiau'r Twmpath (Welsh Barn Dances) 2' by Band Y Meillion, was of the
same design as the first scan but was coloured black-on-yellow. That
record was manufactured by British Homophone.
