DISNEYLAND DOUBLES

Disneyland Doubles was, unsurprisingly, part of the Disney organization.  It took popular musical numbers from Disney films and issued them in single format - one song on each side - and in picture sleeves.  According to 'Record Retailer' of the 18th of September 1971 the first dozen Disneyland Doubles singles were to be released the following month; the dates given on those and subsequent records refer to the year when the material was first published.  The initial batch was well received: 'RR' of the 27th of November reported that 120,000 of the singles had been sold in two weeks, at 32p each.  The series was added to, usually several records at a time, throughout 1972 and 1973.  Numbers started at DD-10 and reached DD-46.  At the time of the launch Disney had a pressing and distribution contract with CBS; when that expired the company signed a licensing deal with Pye, effective from the 1st of May 1974.  The few singles that I have seen in the vinyl have mainly been CBS pressings, but while the series wasn't added to after the move to Pye it remained available, and it seems likely that Pye would have done any re-pressing that was necessary after that time - I have seen just one example so far.  Two kinds of labels were used: the first batch of releases, from 1971, had stripes and a large logo (1); the rest were stripeless, had a slightly shrunken logo, and came in a less exuberant shade of blue (2).  Both bore a family resemblance to the Disneyland 'Little LP' labels - see 'Disneyland'.  Re-pressings of popular items from the first batch were given the second type of label.  Other Disney musical outlets included Buena Vista and Disneyland Super 6 (q.v. both).  Thanks to Ade Macrow of the 45cat site for the use of his 'lineless label' scan.
