DINDISC
According to Billboard magazine of the 15th of September
1979, Dindisc and the publishing company associated with it, DinSong, were
set up by Virgin Records (q.v.) as part of an expansion
programme. Its first chief was Carol Wilson. Although it came
in the scene in late 1979 its glory days were in the early '80s, when Orchestral
Manoeuvres In The Dark and, to a lesser extent, Martha & The Muffins took it
into both the Singles and Album Charts. By 1983, however, it had
ceased trading. The 1970s singles had no standard label; the one with
the Dindisc logo (3) came into use with The Brians' single 'My Brother's
Famous' (DIN-7; 11/79) and was used regularly afterwards, in different
colours - thanks to Nicholas Hough for that scan. Manufacture and
distribution were by CBS, as they were for Virgin at the
time. The discography below only covers the 1970s.
