DEFENSIVE

A DIY Alternative Punk label, dating from 1979.  As can be seen from Nicholas Hough's scan, it's debatable whether Defensive qualifies as a label as such: the labels used on the records were the standard SRT ones, there's no logo, and the only reference to Defensive is a copyright credit in small letters.  At the bottom, however, is a discrete catalogue number; that tipped the balance and earned Defensive a page here.  The label issued two EPs, both by the Mud Hutters.  'Information' appeared in April 1979; it had catalogue number of SRTS/79/CUS-263 or N.A.T.O.-ONE, and it contained the tracks 'No God', 'Nice Guy / Left Right', 'All About' and 'Neolithic Dub'.  'Declaration' (SRTS/79/CUS-496, or N.A.T.O.-TWO) followed in October of that same year, and offered 'Fragments', 'Danger', 'Help Now', 'Water Torture', 'Chances' and 'Stabbings'.  The band was from Knutsford, and the label was handled by Dead Good Records (q.v.), of Lincoln.
