CHEVRON
Chevron was a budget-priced record
and tape label. It was owned by Woolworth's, and its products were
available only in Woolworth's stores. Billboard of the 17th of February
1979 says that the label was to make its debut at the end of March and gives the
manufacturer as being independent firm Multiple Sound
Distribution. The label appears to have concentrated almost
exclusively on LPs and cassettes, of which there were many, but the record
pictured above suggests that 1979 saw the release of a series of 7" EPs
dedicated to Ann Petrie's astrological predictions. It seems unlikely
that many people would buy an EP to hear their fortune for the coming year, even
with a bit of classical music in the background, so perhaps the EPs were
included in birthday cards. The reverse of the 'Scorpio - Your Year
Ahead' EP has a summary of the general characteristics of Scorpios on it, topped
and tailed by a quick blast of 'Over The Sea To Skye'. An oddity,
then, but an intriguing one. The other EPs in the series - assuming that
there were some - have turned out to be google-proof, so I can't offer even my
usual inadequate discography. Chevron appears to have still have been
making records as late as 1987.
