CBS
Discography 1970 - 1979
This discography only covers the
1970s, and it is full of holes. Some of these holes can be accounted
for by the fact that CBS singles shared their numbering system with those of other
labels in the group - Epic, Philadelphia International, Monument, Dandelion, Nems, and so on; some others
are down to the fact that singles with those numbers
were released overseas and not in Britain. Initially stereo singles had the letter 'S' before the number, as
in 'S 5054' or 'CBS S 7555'; in late 1972, when the numbering changed to
the CBS-1000s, it moved in front of the prefix, as
in 'S CBS-1091' or 'S CBS-3068'. When stereo became the norm, mono singles were usually - but not always - given an 'M' in addition to the prefix. The first and third columns are to allow for these 'S'es and 'M's; the second column has the prefix, if any; the fourth the number.
