BIG

A Reggae label; part of the Trojan group.  Big ran from 1970-72, and was a vehicle for Rupie Edwards's productions.  Singles were issued in a BG-300 series and on two different labels - a plain one for the first three releases (1), a more complex one (2) for the rest.  The text 'Made in England' appeared on records from the 30th of April 1971 onwards, staring with BIG-319; Trojan began to add it to all of its labels around that time.  Manufacture may have been by Orlake, who were responsible to the majority of Trojan pressings.  Distribution was by a combination of Island, H.R. Taylor and Keith Prowse, as it was for the other members of the Trojan family at the time.  The first scan comes by courtesy of Robert Bowes.
