ANGELIC UPSTARTS
A
DIY Punk label, owned by the band of the same name. Angelic Upstarts
put out just the one single, 'The Murder Of Liddle Towers' b/w 'Police
Oppression' (IS/AU-1024; 8/78). It was picked up by Rough Trade / Small
Wonder and reissued, as RTSW-001, though the labels kept the original
catalogue number. The band came to the attention of the major record
companies, and they went on to register half a dozen
Top Fifty singles with Warner Brothers and EMI / Zonophone. Thanks to Sam Mauger for
the scan, which is of a reissue - original singles
lack the 'Small Wonder / Rough Trade' reference under the title. The IS/xx/1000
catalogue series was used by Impulse Studios of Newcastle; see 'Wudwink'. The
'Zig Zag Small Labels Catalogue 1978' gives the label's contact address as 411 Palmerston
Street, South Shields.
