ALPINE
A Reggae label, marketed
by President, with distribution by Lugton and other independents, presumably
including President themselves. Alpine was one of a small
stable of labels run by David Williams's management agency Vogue Choice, and was thus a sister to
Strawberry, VC and Prism (q.v. all).
It seems to have had a very fleeting existence, apparently limited
to the Jimmy Cherry single shown above, 'He'll Have
To Go' (ALDRE-1), which came out in May 1976. The 'B' side, 'Ladbroke Groove'
was credited to the Sugarcane Band. Promotional copies were marked with a small black 'A', as was the custom for labels associated with President at that time (2).
