ROOK

The label of Rook Studios of Stourport-on-Severn.  Rook appears to have been a custom recording outlet.  The only one of its records that I have seen in the vinyl is the one pictured above, an EP by Colin Fidoe and Philip Barton - the labels don't make it clear whether the duo themselves were called 'Back To Back' or if that was the name of the EP.  It came out in 1979 and it was pressed in France, as records on quite a number of small labels were at that time.  In addition to the tracks shown in the scan it offered 'Julie' and the rather Punky 'School Days'.  Its catalogue number was RMR-1001.  RMR-1002 was an LP by Past And Present, 'First Time Out', which also dates from 1979; it was made through SRT and had a matrix number of SRTS/79/CUS-423.  Google dredged up four other Rooks but they were all from 1980.  EPs by The Woodberries and by Bobby King had labels with the same design as the above but with the colours reversed, while singles by The Singles and Sue Lacy had red injection moulded labels with the logo at the top.  For some reason the EPs were numbered in a JAW-19xx series - 1935 and 1936 respectively - rather than the RMR-1000 one, while the Sue Lacy single was numbered AVR-957 and the Singles' one AVR-958.  There were several 7" records with numbers in a AVR-19xx series in 1980; as that series appears to be a continuation of Rook's JAW-19xx one they may well be related to Rook.  For that reason, and for the sake of interest (!), I've listed them below.  There may possibly be other Rooks out there, as DIY records are often google-proof.
