ROMA

A DIY label, apparently a one-off.  A single by The Ron Russell Band offering versions of 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' and Charlie Barnet's 'Sky-Liner' seems to have been Roma's only release.  Its catalogue number was ROM-1001, and it came out in 1976; pressing was by Phonodisc, as the injection moulded labels suggest.  The 'Ro' of the label name was presumably borrowed from bandleader Ron Russell, the well-known Dixieland / Jazz bassist, which invites the question of who 'MA' was - Mary? Martha? Martin?  The band had released a self-financed album, 'Jazz At The Palace' (SRT/CUS-018; 1975) through SRT (q.v.) the previous year.  As can be seen from the line-up on the label, it had some familiar names from the British Jazz scene amongst its members; it was still gigging in 2017, albeit with some changes in personnel.
