REGIS
ROSE
Regis Rose appears to have been
a small independent / DIY label. It has the typical plain
look of that sort of record, being restricted to two colours and suffering from
a lack of ornamentation. The only record I have ever seen on Regis
Rose is the Bob Anthony single pictured above, 'Mama Please Light A Candle For
Me', which according to the label was the winning song at the Nice Festival in
1978. Probably the single was released in that same
year. There is nothing either on the label or in the wax
to hint at who the manufacturer was, but the picture sleeve says that the
company was based in Barnham, Bognor Regis. The catalogue number,
RR-29, suggests that there should be a fair number of other Regis Rose records
out there, but 'Mama...' is the only one that Google has thrown up and the
others may well not exist. Lord Thames, of the Vinyl Vulture sites,
has kindly pointed out that Anthony was a prominent Jersey-based entertainer who
had his own record label, 'Ile D'Amour' (q.v.).
