LITTLE NOTE
A bit of a mystery. 'The Forest Rangers' was
a Canadian children's television serial that was picked up in the UK by ITV
and ran from 1964-66. The theme music doesn't seem to have been released
on record at the time, but for some reason it surfaced on a single some
eleven years after the show's run had finished. The label responsible
was Little Note records, of whom I know nothing. The 'B' side to '"Forest
Rangers" Theme' (which sounds to my ears like the original recording and, despite the
claim on the label, isn't stereo) was 'A Song For My City'. Both were
written by John Bath, from Rye, and performed by the Graunke Symphony
Orchestra, from Munich; Bath himself conducted the 'A' side, Kurt Graunke the
'B'. The catalogue number of the single, which seems to have been Little
Note's only release, was LN-1001, and the year of issue
was 1977. Unusually for such an obscure record it was listed in Music
Master, which gave it as being 'Song For My City' / 'The Forest Rangers
Theme' by the Graunke Orchestra, with the number as LN-101 and the year of
issue as 1978. According to MM the single manufactured for, and
distributed by, Noteworthy, who appear to have been a Canadian music publishing company. Manufacture
was by Lyntone, the matrix numbers being LYN-4538 and LYN-4539. There aren't many copies of
the record about. It took me eighteen years
to find any reference to it other than the one in
MM, but fortunately when I did I was able to get
hold of a copy and provide a scan here.
