INDUSTRIAL
An independent label owned and run by the four members of
Throbbing Gristle, a ground-breaking anti-music band from the second half of the
1970s. Industrial spawned a new kind of 'music', bleak, dehumanised
and automated. The genre was named after the label, 'Industrial
Music', and it is still with us today, albeit in several different
forms. The label started life in 1976 and expired in 1981, when
Throbbing Gristle broke up. Most of its releases were cassettes but
it managed a few vinyl LPs and nine singles. The vinyl issues shared
the same IR-0000 catalogue numbers. Thanks to Robert Bowes for the
scan.
