HELEN'S GOLDEN STOOL

A bit of a mystery.  Helen's Golden Stool seems to have been responsible for just one record: a single by the Opambou Internationals led by Nana Agyeman, 'Reggae Special' b/w 'Odo Ye Wu', which came out in 1975 and had a catalogue / matrix number of 833.  Agyeman was a well-known Highlife artist in Ghana at the time, and I'd have been inclined to suspect that the single was pressed in the UK for sale in that country.  However, Sam Mauger - who was kind enough to bring the label to my attention and provide a scan - says that in 1976 a copy was sent to the radio station at which he was working, which indicates that it was available here and was being promoted.  That's good enough for me to give Helen's Golden Stool a page on this site.  Apparently the original golden stool of Helen was intended to be presented to the wisest man in Ancient Greece, but they were all wise enough to refuse it.
