GWAWR
An independent Welsh
label, owned by the popular duo Tony & Aloma Jones and
based at Crud yr Awel, Stryd Fawr, Llanerchymedd,
Anglesey. Gwawr appears to have issued just four seven-inch records,
all of them in 1974. They were
numbered in a GWAWR-100 series. An album by Tony ac Aloma, 'Tipyn
O Gan' (GWA-105) followed a couple of years later, after which the label seems to have been
shelved. It was revived in the mid 1980s
for a couple more Tony ac Aloma LPs. The label design remained the same from 1974-76 but the colouring changed from red (1) to
blue (2) for the second two EPs and the album. According to
my pocket Welsh dictionary, 'Gwawr' translates as 'Dawn', which explains the rising sun logo. The single by Bili Dowcer was made through Deroy (q.v.); it and (particularly) the EP by Bran are collectable.
