GOOSEBERRY
A mystery, but a distinctive-looking
one. Peter Poet's 'Penal Servitude Blues' b/w 'I Know That I Love
You' (GR-001) appears to have been Gooseberry's only release. There's
no date on the label, but Dr. Doom of the 45cat site reports seeing a copy with
August 1977 handwritten on it, and going by the music on it that sounds
perfectly possible - it is Reggae, with touches of synthesizer on the 'A' and a
Lovers Rock feel on the 'B'. It is possible that the label had something
to do with Gooseberry Studios, of London, but that's just a
guess. Google is silent on the subject. The label looks
too professional for a DIY effort... Pressing was by Orlake. Thanks
to Robert Bowes for bringing the label to my attention.
