BROLLY
A direct descendant of
the Umbrella label (q.v.). Raffi Pereira and Root Jackson set up
Umbrella in December 1978; some seven months and one single later they changed
the company's name to Brolly. 'Music Week' of the 16th of June
reported the name-change; it said that as a result of an agreement with Eden
Studios (q.v.) a single by Rafoot, 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' was
scheduled for release on the 29th of that month and several other singles
were expected to follow. That single duly emerged, in both 7" (as
RAIN-1) and 12" (as LL-1) versions, but there's no sign of any of the
others. 'Music Master' gives marketing as being by
Rediffusion and distribution by Spartan; it gives the month of release as
August, which may
merely refer to the date when those arrangements came into play. The 12" is listed
on the Music Week 'Releases' page for the 3rd of August, while
the 'New Singles' leaflet splits the difference and offers the 13th of July
as the release date for the 7".
