BLUE THUMB

American, out of Beverly Hills. Blue Thumb was formed in 1968 by Bob Krasnow, Tommy LiPuma and Don Graham. It was purchased by Famous Music in 1972, was absorbed into ABC Records in August 1974 along with the other Famous group labels, and was finally dropped c.1979 when MCA took over ABC. Some Blue Thumb product came out through Harvest Records in Britain in the early '70s, but several albums and a couple of singles were issued on the actual Blue Thumb label over here after it was licensed to Island Records, which it was in June 1972.  The agreement was supposed to run for three years, according to 'Music Week' of the 17th of June, but presumably Blue Thumb's acquisition by ABC led to the deal being terminated prematurely; after the acquisition Blue Thumb records came out on the ABC label over here.  Blue Thumb's own-label releases shared a catalogue series with Island's own issues.  Manufacture of the singles was by EMI, as it was for most of Island's singles at the time.  The position of the credits changed, as can be seen from the scans.  Thanks to Nicholas Hough for the scan of the demo label.
