BLACK
GOLD
Black Gold was not, as you
might imagine, a label specializing in reissues of classic
Soul music; it was the record label of Ian McCredie's 'Black Gold' studios,
which were based in Kirkintilloch. McCredie was better-known as the
bass player with hitmakers Middle Of The Road.
The catalogue numbers of the records for which his studio was responsible seem to
indicate that at least eight were issued. There are no dates on the
labels but the first two digits appear to give the year of
release. The track listings suggest that the records were self-financed rather than
actually released by the studios, but that is just speculation. Thanks to Stephen
Small for the discographical details, and to Klepsie of the 45Cat site for filling-in a gap
in them.
