ACCLAIM
Acclaim was something of
a mystery even at the time when it was in operation. 'Record Retailer' of
the 17th of January 1970 gives the company's address as 22 Buckingham Street, London WC1, but it also says that no
details of the company's board members had been provided, there wasn't any information
about manufacture of its products, and that no distribution deal had been arranged. The
single pictured above, 'Eros' b/w 'Road To Cameron' by actor Stuart Damon, seems to
have been Acclaim's only release. It has a catalogue number of AS-1, and
according to the article it was available only by
mail order outside London. The style of the matrix number suggests a CBS
pressing. John Hawkins and Andrew Cameron Miller, the producers,
were partners in AMP, which ran the Reflection label (q.v.); together with the fact
that Amp Music were the publishers of 'Eros' this suggests a strong
Reflection link.
